Punta Chiappa · Camogli
Paradiso nel parco di Portofino
A house on the rocks above the sea, where the road ends and the path begins. Reachable only by boat or on foot.
Welcome
Ten metres above the water, inside the Portofino Marine Protected Area, a small house looks out over the Golfo Paradiso. No cars, no traffic: only the waves on the rocks, the boats crossing the bay and, every evening, the sun going down into the sea.
Scogli Grossi means «big rocks», like the ones below the house, where you swim, snorkel and paddle straight from the landing. It is a place for couples in search of quiet, for families who want nature and comfort together, and for anyone who loves the slow rhythm of the coast.
The house
The living room opens onto the gulf, with a kitchen corner and a long wooden table by the window. Mornings begin with coffee and the sound of the sea; evenings end with the lamps on and the windows open.
The master bedroom looks out to sea. The second bedroom has two bunk beds, a favourite with children, and a double sofa bed in the living room makes room for six. A bathroom with a large shower, air conditioning and a quiet corner for working complete the house.
Outside

Right outside the door, a private terrace with a wooden table, loungers and deck chairs. A few steps up, a paved and shaded raised garden, reserved for you: the coolest spot on a summer afternoon, and the best one for a long breakfast.

Among the olive trees, a long stone terrace opens onto the whole Golfo Paradiso. Part of it is shared with our neighbours, who live next door: a few flower pots mark their corner.

The sea
From the landing below the house you step straight into the clear water of the marine reserve. Two paddle boards, masks, fins, water shoes and life jackets are waiting for you, and the seabed around Punta Chiappa is well known to divers. Fishing is forbidden here, and you can see it in the water.

Getting here
There is no road to Punta Chiappa. You arrive the way people always have: by sea, or along an old path through the park.

From Camogli harbour, a fifteen-minute crossing along the cliffs to Porto Pidocchio, then five minutes on foot along the waterfront. Camogli station is a short walk from the harbour; timetables on golfoparadiso.it.

For evening arrivals, or when you want to come straight to the door, local taxi boats bring you from Camogli to Porto Pidocchio. We will gladly share the numbers we trust.

From San Rocco di Camogli a paved, lit path winds down through the Portofino Park, past the little medieval church of San Nicolò, to the gate: about 1.5 km (1 mile) and 200 m (650 ft) of steps, half an hour among olive groves and sea views. Bring a backpack rather than a suitcase.
Arriving by car? You can park in Camogli, Recco or San Rocco. Our guest guide, sent after booking, explains every step from the car park to the gate.
Around
Step out of the gate and the day has already begun. Whatever you have in mind, from a private boat trip to a dinner by the sea, we are happy to help you plan it.

The medieval abbey in its hidden cove, a short boat ride or a beautiful hike away. Beneath the water nearby stands the Christ of the Abyss.

Fifteen minutes by ferry to the colourful harbour of Camogli, its focaccia and its evening stroll; in season the boats go on to San Fruttuoso and Portofino.

The waters of Punta Chiappa and San Fruttuoso are among the best-loved dive sites in the Mediterranean. The dive centres of Camogli organise trips for every level.

Rent a boat or a kayak, book a private tour of the villages, or join a whale and dolphin watching trip from Camogli.

The paths start at the gate: to San Fruttuoso, to the old lighthouse, up to San Rocco and its view as far as Genoa. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to walk.

In season, a handful of seaside restaurants and bars are five to ten minutes' walk away, for breakfast, a long lunch, dinner or a cocktail at sunset.
When to come

Flowers along the paths, quiet trails, warm sun on the terrace, breakfast outdoors and the first swims of the year.

Long days in and out of the water, lunch in the shade of the garden, dinners by the sea and warm nights under the stars.

Golden light, a sea still warm and the trails all to yourself. Many of our guests keep swimming well into October.

Every evening the sun goes down into the sea, right in front of you. Here, that is the main event.
A little history
Punta Chiappa has never had a road. Everything arrives by boat, or on someone's shoulders along the path.
When the house was renovated, even the building materials came by air, hanging from a helicopter. It is the same isolation that keeps this corner of the Riviera so quiet today: the day-trippers leave with the last ferry, and the evening belongs to the few who stay.
